Don’t be ashamed of being a good student

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

For decades popular students at high school have been trying to embarrass mates that were much better students that themselves. Good students had to suffer many pranks and people laughing at them. That is why some of them tried not to get so good grades and slip past.
Thankfully, things are becoming to change at many schools all over the country. As those students that stand out at school are getting good rewards as the last gadgets and good scholarships; teenagers are realizing how important it is to get the best possible grades.
Probably, companies as Google are influencing this trend too. Every youngster would like to work at this kind of companies and they know Google only hires the best ones, those that sure they weren’t the most popular at school but had spent much time learning about new technologies and there is not only Google who wants the best ones: all companies prefer to hire smart and hard-working employees that when decided what to study chose to do the best as possible,
Even on TV series like “The Big Bang theory” stars are young smart boys and writers mock the typical handsome muscled young men with empty minds. In the show watchers have fun about principal character’s daily life but we can watch how many times writers make the “popular” and handsome boys look like idiots.
If you are doing really good as a school student you would be proud of it because aan amazing future is waiting for you.

What to study? A life-shaping choice

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Once you have finished senior year at high school you have to make one of the most important decisions of your life; choose what to study and which University will have you a one of its students.

Many times young people let their family of friends tell them what they should study. Once they get the degree after years of effort and many hours preparing the exams many of them realized that all that time was a waste because they don’t like what they were studying for. However at that point the decision cannot be easily reversed and most of the people go on with their life although they don’t fell happy with it.

No one wants to spend many years studying and starting a career that don’t fit with him and that will make him unhappy for the rest of his life . In order to avoid this situation, you should sit a career test for high school students . These tests show you what are your better skills and which studies are related to your abilities so your chances to make a proper choice and go a great job increase a lot.

Once you have the determination of studying a certain degree you should choose the best institution to take that studies that you can find. Companies are very sensitive about where the job applicant took his studies so University reputation is a point to consider when choosing one. There are another aspects to consider as cost per year, distance to your family home, chances to get a grant, etc. but the fist one to be aware is the studies program quality.

To finish, a really good advice to any student: Study what you like not what you are supposed to.

Take your exam at home

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Are you also tired of stressing out while waiting in line to take your exam, talking with everybody and appearing that you don’t know as much as you thought you would? Then maybe there is a solution for you.

A company called Software Security Inc has created a new kind of software that would be able to allow school students taking their exams at home. Thanks to the new technology, students wouldn’t be able to cheat at home.

According to the BBC website, the device has to be plugged into the computer of the student. Afterwards it takes a fingerprint in order to verify the person being the one who he claims to be. During the exam, a webcam and a microphone are switched on making sure that there is no one else in the room talking or there is no unnecessary movement. Furthermore, it would be impossible for the student to get access to the internet or personal files thanks to a ‘Lock Down’.

Some universities are testing the software and say that it’s good. It helps the disabled a lot for example. Of course nothing is 100% secure they say but neither are traditional exams.

Summer online degree classes

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Students who are thinking about taking classes over the summer in Kansas will be able to do so from their own homes. Because, according to the student newspaper of the University of Kansas, the university will start to offer online summer classes this year, instead of organising them on the campus.

These online classes would enable a student to concentrate on the classes they are taking during a shorter time period and they often complete courses more quickly. There is an extra benefit for new students because they can start their college online before they arrive at the university. Instructors are still adding and deleting options on the list of online courses in the summer

A little remark is that the online summer courses cost a little bit more when you compare it with a traditional semester course.

Learning while you take a nap

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

A new study from Harvard Medical School found that napping, and dreaming in particular, can be very effective to learn.

We know already for a long time that sleep improves performances on memory tests, but now a new study puts forward that an afternoon nap might improve the ability to process and store information. There is one remark though; you have to dream while you are sleeping.

99 college students participated in the study and were told how to navigate a complex maze on a computer. Afterwards, half of the participants were allowed to take a 90 minute nap while the other half stayed awake. Nappers did better than the students who stayed awake, but what’s more important is that the students who dreamt about the maze, performed 10 times better than the other nappers.

This does not say that you get a better memory by dreaming, it proves that when we are asleep, we try to work out the problem unconsciously. Especially when we find something difficult.

So if you think that sleeping is a waste of time, dream on!
