Tips for a good college experience

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

You are a school student and you’re not sure about going to college. But if you go, you want to make the best out of it. I found a couple of tips for you on the internet that may help you making your college experience as positive and productive as possible.

First you have to ask the question “why am I going to college?” Because many students don’t know why they are going to study in college. These students mostly listen to their friends or family and don’t follow their own desires. Of course their motivation will run out quickly, they start to skip classes and their whole college life is about going out and drinking. This is doomed to fail and so you have to ask the question whether you want to go to college and what you want to do during your period here.

Another smart thing to do is setting clear objectives for every class you go to. Decide what you want to achieve by going to a certain class. This can determine how much time you want to spend for this class and whether you WANT to master the material or not. In this way you can do a little less for classes that have a low priority for your specific goals.

Furthermore you can try to do a personality or a career test to discover which type of student you are and maybe get to know what you really want to study. It’s easy, quick, cheap and it could help you to determine your future.

The last tip I want to give you is: try to enjoy it as much as possible because before you know it, it’s finished and you have to start working. Of course you will have to overcome some challenges but the life of a student is not only about working, you have to enjoy the fact that you are still a student and blow off steam.

Best High Schools

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Each year Newsweek chooses the best high schools in America based on the work of the school staff and how hard school students are tested in order to be prepared for college. This year, they did something special. Newsweek made an individual profile page for 1608 schools that made the list. This is more or less 6% of all the high schools in the United States. You can check out all the profiles on their website.

Furthermore 20 schools were selected as the top 20 high schools, you can find pictures and information about how all these schools prepare their students for college online.
There is also a list of schools that were too elite to be included in the rankings. These rankings are important because high school can be a good educational preparation for different types of students.

Take your exam at home

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Are you also tired of stressing out while waiting in line to take your exam, talking with everybody and appearing that you don’t know as much as you thought you would? Then maybe there is a solution for you.

A company called Software Security Inc has created a new kind of software that would be able to allow school students taking their exams at home. Thanks to the new technology, students wouldn’t be able to cheat at home.

According to the BBC website, the device has to be plugged into the computer of the student. Afterwards it takes a fingerprint in order to verify the person being the one who he claims to be. During the exam, a webcam and a microphone are switched on making sure that there is no one else in the room talking or there is no unnecessary movement. Furthermore, it would be impossible for the student to get access to the internet or personal files thanks to a ‘Lock Down’.

Some universities are testing the software and say that it’s good. It helps the disabled a lot for example. Of course nothing is 100% secure they say but neither are traditional exams.

The last one is called Students and has a lot of good stories that might be interesting for students of all kinds.
